Senior Materials & Processes Engineer (12 months FTC)

Your Tasks

As a Materials & Processes Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Engineering Consultancy: Provide expert technical guidance and risk mitigation strategies concerning materials and processes used in next-generation optical instruments.
  • Material & Process Assessment: Evaluate the suitability of materials and processes for space applications, ensuring their effectiveness in the space environment.
  • Manufacturing & Testing Review: Review and assess manufacturing, inspection, and test methods for the qualification of space equipment and systems.
  • Technical Support: Offer support in the resolution of non-conformances and contribute to proposal evaluations.
  • Technical Reviews: Regularly participate in or lead technical reviews regarding materials and processes used in the construction of future, smart space solutions.
  • Expert Knowledge Sharing: Share your extensive expertise in metals and ceramic materials within the team.

Your Qualifications

  • Education: PhD or Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience: Several years of experience in Materials and Processes Control (MMPP) for space applications.
  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with ECSS-ST-Q-70 standards, and their application in space materials and processes.
  • Expertise: Strong knowledge in metallurgy and/or ceramic materials. Expertise in soldering, brazing, or welding topics is a significant advantage.
  • Mindset: An interdisciplinary mindset with an independent, forward-looking approach to work.
  • Soft Skills: Flexibility, a high sense of responsibility, and the ability to collaborate effectively in an international team.
  • Communication Skills: A confident personality with strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel for business purposes.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English, with a good working knowledge of German.
  • Work Style: Structured, goal-oriented, and able to work independently. Strong team player with excellent communication skills.

Optional Skills

  • Additional Expertise: Experience in optical engineering, fracture mechanics, quality assurance, or product assurance within the space industry is desirable.
  • Language Skills: Knowledge of French is a plus.
