Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Stevenage (Relocation Package available)
Work Arrangement: Flexible approach to onsite and remote working, typically 3-4 days a week on site
Salary: Up to £60,000 depending on experience

The Role:

Are you looking for a job that involves both detailed CAD design and hands-on Test/ Development? A fantastic opportunity has emerged at a highly engineering firm for a talented Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work across various stages of the Product Life Cycle, from Mechanical Future Concepts, Detailed Design and Qualification to Production and In-service Support.
You will lead the development of mechanical solutions on a wide variety of complex weapons and weapon systems while collaborating with wider multi-disciplinary teams.


Key Responsibilities:

What We're Looking for From You:

  • Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified with experience in Mechanical Design and Development in areas such as:
    • Mechanisms
    • Structures
    • Assembly and Integration
    • Concept down selection and development
  • Ability to lead mechanical design work packages and experience working within a multi-disciplinary team, understanding the associated challenges.
  • Awareness of proving and qualification activities to ensure compliance against requirements.
  • Robust design experience across the Product Life Cycle (CADMID).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.
  • Experience of supplier engagement and development across internal and external multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Awareness and understanding of cultural differences with the ability to adapt accordingly.
  • An understanding of structural/thermal/dynamic analysis is advantageous.
  • Relevant 3D CAD/CAE experience (training on our preferred CAE tools will be given).


Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to gain UK government security clearance. To achieve this, you must hold British or dual nationality.
