Role Purpose

To lead the aerodynamic development of the next-generation Formula 1 car. This role involves driving the creation of new aerodynamic concepts and constructively challenging the team's approach to regulations and design constraints to achieve optimal results.

Operational Duties

  • Technical Leadership: Lead the technical development of a specific area within the F1 aerodynamic package, enhancing performance by defining concepts and aerodynamic directions.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of aerodynamicists and designers, fostering a culture of innovation and questioning the status quo within the group.
  • Target Setting and Innovation: Set and achieve performance targets, bringing creativity and innovation to the aerodynamics development group.
  • Tool and Methodology Development: Drive the advancement of tools and methodologies, support recruitment, and contribute to the overall technical leadership of the department.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate with the Design Office (DO) and other areas of the organization to define car design.
  • Wind Tunnel and CFD Analysis: Assist in the planning and execution of wind tunnel tests, analyze CFD and experimental results, and utilize WT/CFD personnel and tools effectively to meet aerodynamic performance targets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Maintain awareness and understanding of the aerodynamic package within the group's responsibility, proactively seeking improvements and technical innovations.
  • Reporting and Communication: Conduct thorough analysis and reporting of CFD/WT results to establish robust aerodynamic solutions. Ensure clear communication of information throughout the department and across the team.
  • Support Leadership: Assist the Aerodynamic Project Leader and Manager in both technical and managerial aspects as needed.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • F1 Aerodynamics Expertise: Extensive experience in Formula 1 aerodynamics development at the highest level, with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful aerodynamic concepts.
  • Car Performance Understanding: Deep understanding of the overall car performance requirements.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a wide range of groups, constructively challenging current thinking.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Natural ability to coach and mentor, supporting continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: Strong analytical skills and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Educational Background: Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
