Role Purpose: To work as a lead on the aerodynamic development of the next-generation car. To increase the generation of new aerodynamic concepts and to constructively challenge group thinking on regulations and other design constraints to achieve the best results possible.

Operational Duties:

  • Lead the technical car development for an area of the F1 aero package, adding performance by defining concepts and aerodynamics directions.
  • Lead a team of aerodynamicists and designers, developing a culture of 'challenging the status quo' across the group by example and questioning.
  • Set and achieve targets, bringing creativity and innovation to the aero development group.
  • Drive the development of tools and methodologies, assist with recruitment, support team development, and contribute to the overall technical leadership of the department.
  • Interact with the main DO and other areas of the organization in the definition of the car design, and assist in the preparation and planning for wind tunnel test sessions.
  • Analyze CFD and experimental results, ensuring the best use of WT/CFD personnel and tools to achieve aerodynamic performance targets.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of the aero package within the group's area of responsibility with a proactive attitude towards both continual improvements and technical innovations.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and reporting of CFD/WT results to establish robust aerodynamic solutions and plan and run accurate and efficient WT tests.
  • Maintain positive relationships and clear communication of information throughout the department and across the team.
  • Assist the Aerodynamic Project Leader and Manager in technical and managerial aspects when required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Extensive experience of F1 aerodynamics development at the highest level.
  • Proven track record of developing aerodynamic concepts and ensuring success in practice.
  • Thorough understanding of the requirements of overall car performance.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work with a wide range of groups and constructively challenge current thinking.
  • Natural coach and mentor, able to support continual improvement across the organization by asking great questions.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships within a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
