Key Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of mechanical systems under your control.
Support engineering requirements by liaising with key project stakeholders, including the client design team, main contractor, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Familiarise yourself with Design/IFC specifications and drawings to fully understand the project scope.
Oversee the coordination process to transform design information into full installation drawings, ensuring specification compliance and adherence to the project schedule.
Generate and manage Requests for Information (RFI) and technical queries.
Manage site safety in conjunction with the project manager and safety advisor, including setup, management, and closeout of the safety file.
Oversee site quality assurance (QA) in collaboration with the QA manager, ensuring setup, management, and closeout of required documentation.
Manage project scheduling in conjunction with the project manager, consulting engineer, and client requirements, ensuring engineering activities do not impact procurement and other critical project timelines.
Oversee all aspects associated with your package, including:
Mechanical team
Subcontractors
Material deliveries and goods receipting
Plant and equipment
Variations
Valuations
Manage daily site operations, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
Oversee subcontractor activities, tracking progress against schedules and staffing levels, and ensuring an adequate flow of information to support project advancement.
Ensure works are installed according to project specifications and the quality assurance plan, including benchmarking and validation.
Assist the installation team in managing quality requirements on-site, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, codes, and project specifications.
Manage construction work pack processes from development through implementation and handover.
Oversee the snagging system, ensuring weekly updates from supervisors and proper distribution of all snags to subcontractors.
Track and report direct labour hours and subcontractor hours for central administration.
Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning and coordination meetings, and handover discussions.
Ensure the successful closeout of all project deliverables, including final accounts, O&M manuals, punch lists, safety files, QA files, material and plant relocations, and project plans.
Prepare and issue weekly cost reports, detailing orders placed, expected materials, and labour levels.
Maintain an engineering task log, ensuring all activity targets and deadlines are met to support the project team.
Issue internal weekly progress reports summarising supervisors' updates, percentage completion based on WBS codes, and any risk elements affecting project delivery.
Issue external weekly progress reports to the project manager, highlighting delays, design shortages, third-party hold-ups, and overall completion status.
Manage and oversee technical submittals and approvals.
Schedule material deliveries in alignment with the project timeline, tracking orders and procurement using an Engineering Materials Report (EMR) for material take-offs, lead times, and field need rates.
Maintain a weekly photographic diary of the project.
Prepare subcontract and supplier tender packages in conjunction with the project QS.
Assess subcontractor and supplier tender returns for technical compliance with design specifications.
Promote and evaluate new engineering practices and processes to enhance project delivery times.
Manage BIM priorities, including modular concepts, typical fabrication details, isometric generation, and release for construction.
Validate materials and assets within the model for construction, ensuring effective change management.
Support and mentor junior engineers within the project team, contributing to their professional development.
Attend project meetings or whiteboard activity planning sessions as required.
Perform all other duties associated with the role.
Qualification
- Degree / equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years' experience working with a recognised mechanical/electrical contractor.
Excellent organisational and planning skills.
Strong teamwork abilities.
Effective negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency in engineering-related software.
