The HSE Project Design Specialist supports the Technical Director, the QHSE Project Manager, and all packages in the project. He/She will work in the development phase of the project up to the Final Investment Decision. The HSE Project Design Specialist is mastering the area around the Principal Designer role with high subject matter expertise on Design Risk Management (incl. safety by design principals) and UK CDM regulation. He/She will be supporting the clients Technical Director (in the role of Principal Designer) in his tasks both through training of project members, guidance and exercising actual work related to the role as Principal Designer.
As an add-on activity the HSE Project Design Specialist will assist in updating our global processes around Design Risk Management and CDM.
Main goal for the role is from Design Risk Management and ALARP principles to support the organisation to achieve the most safe and sustainable workplaces in an acceptable quality for the the clients assets with the use of knowledge of the client Technical HSE Requirements, international and national standards and legislation \as well as industry best practice.
Tasks in more detail:

  • Develop and run training for project team members on design risk and CDM
  • Develop a project specific Design Risk Management Plan detailing deliverables according to stage gate requirements and work proactively for delivery of these in the right quality and at the right time.
  • Evaluate competency assessments of individuals and organisations to be appointed as Designers and provide recommendations to the project Client
  • Audit design risk documentation produced by Designers and advise on improvements required
  • Support the Designers undertaking appropriate steps to mitigate design risks to ALARP
  • Support the Principal Designers representative to ensure collaboration between designers is effective by assisting in mapping key interfaces on HSE Design between the individual windfarm parts / structures and address these: Identify dependencies, interdependencies, gaps, overlaps, misalignments)
  • Contribute to the content of the project H&S File
  • Map gaps in the client CDM process and assist in updating process.

Work location can be from home, LDN office or Grimsby.
Contract period 1 year.


Job Requirements:

  • UK-based, flexibility and travel availability within UK. Travel to Denmark will occur.
  • Education: Relevant technical background
  • Thorough understanding of HSE product safety
  • Thorough understanding and actual work experience of CDM 2015
  • Training experience
  • Recommended 5 years of relevant and practical work experience
  • Knowledge of design standards, country legislations, Temporary Workplace Directive, product development
  • Experience in tools used to address design risks (design risk assessments, hazid/hazops,. qualitative and quantitative assessments)
  • True QHSE role model with a co-operative and a solution-oriented attitude
  • Good communication skills and able to write and speak English fluently
  • Caring and honest, motivator with a human touch
